B Corp Certification is a prestigious designation awarded to companies that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability. This globally recognized certification is administered by the non-profit B Lab. The B Corp Certification goes beyond product- or service-level certification. It assesses the overall positive impact of a company on its workers, customers, community, and the environment. Thus, it provides a holistic view of how a company operates and its true footprint in the world.
To achieve this certification, companies must complete the B Impact Assessment, which measures a company’s impact on its stakeholders in five areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers. Companies must meet a minimum verified score on this assessment and amend their legal governing documents to consider the impact of their decisions on all stakeholders, not just shareholders. Once certified, B Corps must continue to meet these high standards and are required to recertify every three years. B Corp Certification is a concrete and meaningful way for a company to commit to being a force for good.
